Looks like the Zombie theme is not going away. I think it’s good because more people will be exposed to a SHTF situation. Operation Z  is a 12 part DVD series addressing surviving a zombie apocalypse. Looks like volume 1 Intro to handguns is already out. ”Does this mean we can shoot them? Yes…. Shoot em.

Tactical Life is reporting that Maxpedition will be coming out with the Ferox folding knife. The knife will have a plain edge and a serrated edge model. From the pictures I have seen it looks pretty good. Although no pocket clip is seen I’m guessing there will be one for this knife. (update yes it has a pocket clip)Another feature this knife will have will be a fast action opener flipper. No word yet on what materials, availability or price of this knife.

Price will be $29.99 and will come in Black, OD Green and Khaki. According to Maxpeditions website, ETA for availability is early October 2012.

Oakley LSA Terrain Boot Review and Video

I have had my Oakley LSA (Land,Sea,Air) Terrain Boot for about a month and so far and I love them. I use them five days a week as a uniform boot. The LSA was a boot that I wanted to try for size before I bought them so I went on a search of my local uniform stores  for sizing. Could not find a pair so I just ordered them from Zappos. The great thing with Zappos is its free shipping( 5 day ground for me) and if they did not fit I can return them. I had a pair of the original Oakley Assault Boots (US Made) when they first came out and had issues with the laces and the boots coming apart without that much hard use or time using them. So I was a little leery of getting these boots.

Quick Stats

  • Lenzi composite puncture resistant plate
  • Slip resistant outsole
  • Gusseted tongue prevents entry of water and debris
  • Import(China)
  • Comes in Black,Desert Tan,Multicam and Coyote
  • Heel pull tab for an easier on and off
  • 1.4-1.6mm Scotchguard® treated pig suede and 100 Denier Cordura® uppers.

Inital Impressions

The boots look and feel great and it took about two days of  break in time for me. The only blemish I saw was what I think is glue by the toe cap by one of the shoes. It’s not a problem for me so I’m keeping them.

If you want to get  away from a heavy boot for Law Enforcement/EMT/Security you may want to consider the Oakley LSA. They go for about $125 but you can get a discount if you’re in L.E or Military at US Standard Issue. I’m curios to find out how long these boots will last. Will post an update later this year on how they are holding up. Almost forgot, for those of you that have to fight zombies underwater while wearing swim fins…Oakley has you covered with thier LSA Water Boot. Those Oakley guys think of everthing dont they?

Follow Kyle Lamb on his outdoor adventures shooting, hutning and training in this well made video series. Regular T.V just has a lot of stuff that does not intrest me. Cable is much better with the outdoorchannel and shows like TAC TV but with Viking Chronicles its a great show in under 10 minutes. It’s just two shows so far but I like what I’ve seen. Check it out!!

Pat Rogers on shooting on the move

To me Pat Rogers has always written practical articles in gun magazines that made sense to me. In this video for Panteao Productions we hear his take on shooting on the move and talks about the differences between shooting on a smooth surface and dirt. You don’t see him demo it but you don’t want to learn how to do that on the web now do you.

Are Zombies Good for the Firearm Industry?

The popularity of zombies has been showing up in not only guns, gear and ammo but in 3 gun competition as well earlier this year at the 2012 SHOT Show in Las Vegas the unofficial theme seemed to be zombie related products. Is that a good thing? I say yes and will tell you why in just a bit

Past Trends

The firearms industry has always had firearms, ammo and paper targets. For me I started to notice in the late 80′s that those 3 items started to be marketed a little different. Any one remember “Pop a Commie for Mommy” , “Better Dead than Red” and “Wolverines!!!” from the 80′s? Back then it was Red Ivan that people were gearing up for. Next came anything with the word tactical and it had to be black, the color coyote, Multicam…..and now zombies. But with zombies I think that people who would normally be turned off by a perceived macho gun culture would be open to firearms. Just paint your gun or gun accessories neon green and add biohazard symbol and your all set. That’s why I think the zombie trend is good. It may bring new shooters into the firearm community.

So would I buy a zombie related item. I will admit that I do have a milspec monkey zombie hunter patch but that’s about it. Time will tell if this is a fad but I think people who would normally not look at firearms related items will take notice. What do you think? Please leave a comment on my blog.

I have always liked the idea of a survival tin but was never really happy with whats out there. What I have came across was either a flimsy tin or an candy/mint tin. These are fine but if you want something thats solid, SOLKA makes thier SUMA container out of  billet 6061 aluminium. Was able to see it up close at the 2012 SHOT Show. Check out this tin and other great SOLKOA products in this video I made.

Quick Stats:

  • Hard anodized, suitable for cooking
  • Can also be used for digging
  • Outside dimensions: 2-1/2″w x 4″l x 1-1/2″d
  • Weight: 3.1oz
